Getting Started with Bus Simulator 27
A first-hour path from Steam specs to demo routes, bus types, and Standard versus Year 1.
Bus Simulator 27, developed by Simteract and published by astragon Entertainment, is scheduled to launch on 8 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Year 1 Edition Advance Access starts 3 September 2026. This page is the first-hour plan for that launch week: confirm the machine can run Unreal Engine 5, drive the playable Steam demo, learn the cab, pick a bus class, then choose an edition without mixing demo limits with full-game promises.
If you only want a route list, skip ahead to the demo walkthrough. If you already know the missions and just need keys, open controls. Everyone else should work the five steps below in order.
1. Check the spec before you fight the frame rate
Cite the Steam page, not the Epic store listing — Epic publishes different numbers. Steam minimum is Windows 11 64-bit, Core i3-12100 or Ryzen 5 2600X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 or RX 580, DirectX 12, and 20 GB disk. Steam recommended is Windows 11, Core i7-14100KF or Ryzen 5 9600X, 32 GB RAM, GTX 2080 Ti or RX 7800 XT, DirectX 12, and the same 20 GB.
The June demo made performance a talking point. After you install, turn on NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR from the graphics settings notes rather than assuming native resolution will hold in Mequina traffic. Full Steam language support lists English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Polish, Chinese, and Turkish; full audio is English, German, and Chinese. This wiki localizes English, German, French, and Spanish.
2. Drive the Steam demo, not a trailer
The demo (Steam app 4311090) has been playable since 15 June 2026. It is a beta-status slice: tutorial, one City Drive in a Mequina district in the Solaris Urbino 12 electric, then Mequina to Alcaztelar and the return in the Mercedes-Benz Tourismo. Many menu tiles stay locked until the full game. That is expected. Use the demo guide so you do not hunt for a route creator that is not in the build.
Finish the tutorial once. Then run the city line until door keys and the bus computer feel automatic. Only then take the coach. The Tourismo is a different length, speed, and stop pattern; treating it as a longer Urbino is how first-time coaches miss lay-bys.
3. Learn the cab on keyboard, pad, or wheel
Default PC bindings use WASD on foot and in the seat, Shift to run, Space to jump, and X to leave a passenger seat. Driving uses W throttle, S brake, A/D steer, Q/E indicators, 1–5 for individual doors, and 6 for all doors. The electric Urbino uses drive mode (F7 Drive, F8 Neutral, F10 Reverse) rather than a conventional gearbox; R and F still exist as gear up/down on vehicles that need them. Print the controls tables. If you own a wheel, read steering wheels — Logitech G923 Xbox support improved in the 18 June 2026 demo patch, but wheel support is still listed as work in progress toward launch.
After the keys stick, follow how to drive for the actual service order: power, parking brake, computer login, doors, mirrors, timetable, ramp.
4. Pick a bus type, not a fantasy garage
The full roster is 45+ licensed buses from 13 manufacturers. Confirmed brands are Solaris, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, IVECO BUS, Scania, Volvo, Alexander Dennis, Blue Bird, Vicinity Motor Corp, Ebusco, SAFRA, and HESS. Types include rigid, articulated, double-decker, electric, CNG, hydrogen, and coach. Powertrains are diesel, electric, CNG, and hydrogen.
For a first city line, start with city buses and the electric page — the demo Urbino 12 electric is the only city cab you can rehearse. For intercity work, read coach routes and the coach fleet list (Tourismo, Scania Irizar i8, MAN Lion’s Coach). Do not budget for unconfirmed model names. Deluxe Pack extras (HESS lighTram 12 Plug, Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV) are pre-order bonuses, not demo unlocks.
5. Choose Standard or Year 1 before 8 September
Standard is $29.99. Year 1 Edition is $49.99 and includes Advance Access from 3 September 2026 plus the Year 1 Season Pass (Mercedes-Benz Intouro, a later FlixBus Coach Expansion reported for July 2027, two Bus Packs, and two Cosmetic Packs). Pre-order Deluxe Pack — HESS lighTram 12 Plug, Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV, and four exclusive skins — ends at launch. Compare the numbers on pre-order and season pass. The release date page keeps the 8 September 2026 full launch separate from Advance Access.
Story versus Career versus Sandbox
The full game offers three modes. Story introduces characters who hand out contracts and challenges while you rebuild a company after a public-transport scandal. Career leans on economic and managerial systems: you create routes, set timetables, hire drivers, and grow the network at your own pace. Sandbox drops money and rules so you can drive a favorite bus or walk Felicia Bay for points of interest and hidden collectibles.
The demo is none of those modes in full. It is a guided slice with locked management. Do not expect to hire drivers or paint wraps until the 8 September 2026 launch. When those tools open, use company management. If you plan to share the depot, read multiplayer — 4-player online co-op with full crossplay is a full-game feature, not a demo toggle.
You can also ride as a passenger or work as an inspector once those roles are unlocked. They are useful for learning stop spacing on Felicia Bay without managing a whole timetable.
A realistic first hour
Minutes 0–10: confirm Steam spec, DLSS or FSR, and input device. Minutes 10–25: tutorial, then sit still and bind doors and drive mode. Minutes 25–50: City Drive until you can log into the bus computer without a prompt. Minutes 50–70: one coach leg, concentrating on speed and lane position rather than sightseeing. After that, stop. Open graphics settings if the frame rate dipped, or the guides hub if you already know which system you want next.
PC players who care about user buses after launch should note official mod.io support; that kit is not in the demo. Official store and social links sit on the links page if you need Steam, Discord, or @BusSimGame without hunting trailers.
The first hour is not a company. It is a cab exam: can you start the bus, serve a short line, and bring it back without guessing the door key. Pass that, then worry about wraps, hired drivers, and Advance Access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Bus Simulator 27.
What should I do in the first hour of Bus Simulator 27?
Check Steam specs, install the demo, learn controls, finish the tutorial, run the Mequina city line, then try one Tourismo coach leg. Save edition shopping for after that drive.
Should I start in Story, Career, or Sandbox?
The demo does not open those modes in full. At launch, Story is the guided company rebuild, Career is the management sandbox with money, and Sandbox removes those rules. See company management for what Career is aiming at.
Is the Steam spec the one to trust?
Yes. This wiki cites the Steam minimum and recommended lists. Epic publishes different figures. Details are on system requirements.
Which edition should a new player pre-order?
Standard ($29.99) plus the pre-order Deluxe Pack covers two extra buses and four skins. Year 1 ($49.99) adds Advance Access from 3 September 2026 and the season pass. Compare them on pre-order.
Can I skip the demo if I already own Year 1?
You can, but the demo is still the only public rehearsal for doors, the bus computer, and the Mequina–Alcaztelar coach. The demo walkthrough is short; running it once still pays off.
Where do I go after the first hour?
City drivers should open how to drive and Felicia Bay. Coach drivers should open coach routes. Groups should bookmark multiplayer.
